Join More to the Story as Andy and I discuss my recent book on John Wesley’s Doctrine of Justification (Abingdon 2023). As a high church Anglican, Wesley’s full understanding of justification was much more complex than is normally explained. While other studies focus on Wesley’s evangelical perspective, my study shows that Wesley taught there are five degrees of justification. The five degrees are:
- Measure of acceptance for responsive unregenerate
- Sacramental justification for baptized infants
- Measure of acceptance for faith of a servant
- Present/evangelical justification for born-again believers
- Final justification at the Last Judgment
